Try this at home
Reading: Please try to read daily with your children. This is one of the most crucial skills that the children need to practise at this age.
Maths: Year 1 pupils will be learning to count and write numbers up to 50.
Writing: Encourage your child to free-write when possible to promote a love of writing. Please remember, any writing completed at home should include all of the non-negotiables:
- capital letters
- full stops
- writing on the line
- writing at the start of the line
- a finger space between each word
- correct handwriting
Pupils should organise their ideas to ensure their writing makes sense and is cohesive.
We give English or Maths homework each week on Wednesday for children to complete by Monday. Homework is always linked to the learning in class so please complete all homework promptly.
PE: Please make sure your child has a full and named PE kit in school every day. Remember to return it to school if your child has attended an after-school club.
Spelling: Continue to check pupils spelling scores written in their reading records.
Maths: We give every pupil a Mathletics log in to practise maths at home. They will need help with logging on and finding their tasks.
Beat the clock: Beat the clock takes place on Fridays. This is a 10 minute race against the clock. Children answer a range of mental arithmetic questions. They start on stage 1 and if they correctly answer all questions and beat the clock they move on to the next stage. Please encourage your child to practise their times tables at home where possible.
