Our School Meeting

🗣️ Everyone’s Voice Matters: Our School Meeting

At Brede Primary School, we believe that every single person in our school community has the right to be heard — and that means children and adults alike! As a proud UNICEF Rights Respecting School, we put this belief into action every day.

Democracy in Action

Instead of a traditional school council, we have School Meetings where everyone can share their ideas, thoughts, and feelings. Whether your child is 4 or 11, whether they’re a teacher or a teaching assistant, all voices count equally.

What Happens in a School Meeting?

Our School Meetings are vibrant, welcoming gatherings where we:

  • Celebrate what’s going really well in school 🎉
  • Share ideas to make things even better đź’ˇ
  • Talk about school improvement and new projects 📚
  • Listen carefully to everyone’s views — no idea is too small or too big!

Led by Our Rights Respecting School Mentors

These meetings are chaired and run by our fantastic Rights Respecting Schools Mentors — pupils who help make sure everyone’s voice is heard and respected. They guide the discussions, encourage quieter voices, and make sure that all ideas are given equal importance.

Why We Do It This Way

We want every child to feel empowered and confident that their opinion matters. It’s about more than just talking — it’s about learning to listen, respect, and work together to make our school the best it can be.

Our School Meetings show our commitment to democracy and respect — two of the core values of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which guides everything we do as a Rights Respecting School.

Together, we’re making sure that everyone’s voice matters at Brede Primary School — because when we all speak up and listen, great things happen!
