🌍 We Are a UNICEF Rights Respecting School
At Brede Primary School, we believe that every child has the right to be heard, to be safe, and to thrive. That’s why we are proud to be part of the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) – a nationwide initiative that puts children’s rights at the heart of school life.
What Is the Rights Respecting Schools Award?
The Rights Respecting Schools Award, run by the UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK), helps schools like ours to create safe, respectful, and inspiring places to learn. It’s all based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) – a set of rights that all children, everywhere in the world, are entitled to.
Through this award, we ensure that these rights are not just words on paper, but values that guide how we learn, grow, and treat one another every day.
What This Means for Your Child
By being part of a Rights Respecting School, your child will:
- Learn about their rights and the rights of others in a way that’s age-appropriate and meaningful.
- Be part of a school that respects the voice and views of every member of our community, no matter their age..
- Develop confidence, empathy, and a strong sense of fairness and justice.
- Learn how to be an active, responsible citizen in their school, community, and beyond.
A Whole-School Approach
We don’t just teach about rights in lessons – we live them. From the classroom to the playground, from school policies to pupil leadership, our commitment to children’s rights shapes everything we do. Every member of our school community – pupils, staff, and families – plays a part in creating a respectful, inclusive environment where everyone can flourish.
Part of a Bigger Picture
We’re proud to be one of over 5,000 schools across the UK on this journey. More than 1.6 million children now attend a Rights Respecting School – and we’re excited to be part of this growing movement.
What’s Next?
As we continue our journey towards achieving the Rights Respecting School Silver award, we’ll be sharing updates and celebrating milestones with you on our weekly bulletins. Together, we can give our children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives – and to grow into the kind, confident changemakers of tomorrow.
