At Brede Primary School we believe that every pupil has the right to a physical literacy. Through the provision of both Physical Education (PE) and Sport we aim to provide every pupil with the appropriate motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding that ensures they have the foundations for lifelong participation in physical activity.
The school currently holds the Platinum Activemark Award for “exceptional delivery within the PE and Sport Strategy.”
Brede Primary uses the Get Set 4 PE (GS4PE) physical education curriculum. Our progressive scheme of work aims to inspire pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It is designed to provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness and helps to embed values such as fairness and respect.
The scheme is designed across six strands:
- Dance
- Fundamentals through fitness and athletics
- Games through ball skills and field games
- Body Management through yoga and gymnastics
- Outdoor Adventurous Activities
- Swimming (KS2)
Units of lessons are sequential, allowing children to build their skills and knowledge, revisiting again and again with increasing complexity in a spiral curriculum model. This allows pupils to revise and build on their previous learning.
