Information for Parents

🤝 Home – School Contact & Communication

At Brede Primary, we believe that strong communication between home and school is key to your child’s success and happiness. Here’s how we work together to keep you informed and involved:

Open Door Policy

We operate an open door policy, so our staff are usually available on the playground at drop-off and pick-up times to chat briefly. If you’d like a longer conversation with your child’s class teacher or a member of our senior leadership team, simply contact the school office to arrange a convenient appointment.

Our friendly school office team is available throughout the school day to answer general questions, help with appointments, or guide you to the right person.

Stay Connected with the Arbor App 📱

We encourage all parents to sign up for the Arbor app, our main way of sharing important information with you. Through Arbor, you’ll receive:

  • School updates and news
  • Urgent messages and alerts
  • The ‘Brede Bulletin’, our regular newsletter packed with school stories, events, and reminders — be sure to check it regularly!

Contact the school office for your personal link.

Safe Pick-Ups

If someone other than a usual parent or carer is collecting your child, please let the school office know in advance. This helps us keep your child safe.

Reporting Absences

If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, please see our reporting absence information here.

Parent Consultation Meetings 📅

We offer three formal parent consultation meetings each year. The second meeting is a great chance to discuss your child’s progress in detail and look through their work together. At the end of the school year, we send out an annual report — and if you’d like to talk it over, you’re always welcome to book a consultation.

Parent Governors – Get Involved!

Parents play a vital role on our governing body. If you’re interested in learning more or getting involved as a Parent Governor, please contact the school office — we’d love to hear from you!

Sharing Your Views 💬

Your feedback matters! We invite parents to share their thoughts and ideas during school events, open days, and through our regular surveys and questionnaires. You can also contact us anytime via phone or email through the school office.

Support for Families Facing Rising Costs 💚

We understand that many families are feeling the pressure from rising living costs. East Sussex County Council has gathered helpful information on local and national financial support available to ease these challenges. If you’d like to find out more, please ask at the school office or visit their website for guidance.

Accident or Illness at School

Our friendly, trained first-aiders are here to help with any minor bumps, cuts, or bruises your child might have during the school day.

If your child has an injury that seems more serious, we’ll contact you right away so you can arrange to see a health professional. If we can’t reach you, don’t worry — we’ll take responsibility and, if needed, call an ambulance or take your child to the Conquest Hospital to make sure they get the care they need.

Please help us keep your child safe by keeping your home and work contact details up to date with the school office.

Medicines

If your child needs to take prescribed medicine during the school day, please let the school office know. We’ll provide you with a medicine form to complete.

To keep everyone safe, we can only give medicine that:

  • Has been prescribed by a doctor
  • Comes in the original pharmacy packaging
  • Clearly shows your child’s name and dosage instructions

At Brede Primary, we’re here to work with you — because together, we help every child thrive!
